Bringing climate change reporting to the cloud level – XBRL

XBRLeXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) is set to transform the way you disclose your climate change information. It is already widely used around the world for financial reporting and now, we are working with the Carbon Disclosure Project, Fujitsu Research, and Deloitte, and a select group of other organizations to harness this technology and create an XBRL Climate Change Reporting Taxonomy (CCRT). This will make climate disclosure easier and more streamlined for companies, with exciting implications for the future of integrated reporting.

Users of the CCRT will benefit from greater transparency, increased efficiency through reduced mechanical data entry and easier comparisons of climate change information against external data. We are soon to enter the testing phase of this project and welcome enquiries from large listed companies with an interest in testing the CCRT by email to XBRL@cdsb.net.

UNCTAD, CDSB, OECD & GRI climate change reporting event hailed a success

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Climate Disclosure Standards Board (CDSB), and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) are working together to take stock of current corporate climate change reporting frameworks and assess the benefits of greater consistency of approach to the demand for and supply of corporate climate change-related information.  Dubbed “the consistency project”, the partnership explores the challenges of the business sector regarding compliance with international rules and regulations. On March 16, the project partners organized a workshop at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. Presentation slides are now available on the UNCTAD website.

In the summer a report on the findings of the partnerships work will be released – check out CDSB’s website for the latest news and developments on this project.

Japan welcomes CDSB

On the 23rd February, CDSB held a symposium in Tokyo designed to engage with Japanese businesses, investors and policy makers in the topic of disclosing climate change related information. The “sell out” event was the final stage of an 8 month UK Government funded project designed to introduce and seek inputs and feedback on CDSB’s Climate Change Reporting Framework (CCRF).
The program included presentations on the importance of climate change disclosure, developing the XBRL climate change reporting taxonomy, as well as seminars from the OECD and CDP on how they work with CDSB to progress climate change disclosure. A short report on the project outcomes will be published on CDSB’s website in the July 2012.
